If the charge calls for 1lb. of R12, you put in .8lb. of R134. If you end up with phantom leaks, it is more likely the service valve. Many of the conversion valves are prone to leakage. If a system will hold vacuum for 30 minutes without rising, it is very unlikely the system has a leak. Good luck..
