I've ridden the Versys 650, it does way better than any KLR on the freeway but is a little "buzzie" compared to the 1000 at speed. Explore Our Forums.Air distribution in a 4 cyl sportbike can be a real problem, particularly with "ram air". Removing the screen on them can cause very real losses, depending on the model. That does NOT apply to the KLR. Same thing with air filters. There is only about 2 cfm differance from the best filter (UNI), to the worst (K&N).I'm thinking of getting a KLR over a Honda Shadow or Yamaha Vstar 650, cause the mexican streets are brutal, potholes, dirt, uneven, big ass street bumps, and my rebel is too low, it scrapes at times. Having said this, is it a good everyday commuter bike, I know for the mexican streets it'll be great. I did the Eagle Mike doohickey upgrade, carb upgrade, front and rear suspension upgrades, oil and filter, and lubed and adjusted all the cables.
