Jul 13, 2024I bought my first washer in 1977 as a kid in college, an avocado GE Filter-Flo in the standard tub size--with matching dryer, of course. Loved that pair, kept it for several years until I sold the house and bought an 1986 TOL Filter-Flo. I purchased the 1974 GE brochure on line here just to remind myself of that first set.I am looking to buy a 1977 - 1980 GE Filter Flo Washing Machine in good condition. The GE filter-flo Hotpoints usually used a single speed motor with a two-speed clutch. The clutch is located on the motor and can easily be repaired or replaced. Be sure and check the trip solenoid and lever mounted adjacent to it.So I stopped the spray rinse and popped in the basket, YIKES, a perfect reach, and it works with or without the filter pan. I paid to have movers bring it up from her basement and down into mine and then my landlord's handyman to set it up.Recently (and rather suddenly), I've had a problem with a large amount of water leaking out during the spin cycle. Upon further inspection, the water is leaking from the top of the tub, under the top cover. I tested running the washer with the top cover removed, and didn't notice anything unusual until the spin cycle started.
