Exactly, 12 grains of Unique works in the 45/70 with all bullets I cast and shoot in my Marlin 1895. (Made by Remington, oh no!) H335 is probably the powder that will give you the most velocity. Somebody mentioned Unique, the pistol and shotgun powder. Love the stuff. It quickly became popular with hunters of big game, including buffalo, elk, and bear. When loading for the 'newer' style barrels (Sharps and Winchesters), bullet diameter to fit the bore is critical, as well as loading the powder charges to get custom accuracy from each individual weapon. I used to run H322 in some 'bear loads' I was all worked up over, but the reality is that H322 never turned in much as far as consistent performance, and consistency is the strong suit of A5744.For the 45Colt, depends on how hot you want to load them...the powders in the medium-slow area may be worth a try. Herco, N350, N344, or N347 (those Vihtavauri powders may not be easy to find). AA 5744 works for the Colt and 45-70. It won't make big loads in the rifle case but it does all I need.By Chuck Hawks.
