Jan 21, 2011 · I have inherited 2 Marlin .22LR rifles. Both are Glenfield Mod. 60’s. I looked up the serial numbers and determined that these rifles were manufactured in 1976.. They have not been shot since at least 1985 when my Grandfather passed. The rifles are pretty clean on the outside with only a couple small spots of rust or pitting on the barrel..

I took my new Marlin 60 (60SB) apart for cleaning today for the first time after shooting around 400 rounds through it. The owners manual says to clean the action after every 250 rounds! When I went to reassemble it I messed up the recoil spring.The Marlin Model 60, despite its robust design, is not an exception to this problem. Rust can alter the weapon's functionality if left checked. And, while lubrication post-cleaning can help stave off rust, it's not a magic cure-all, and regular cleaning is the key.I question how well it is deep cleaning since it slides through so easy. I use the 24020 that is listed for .50 and .54 caliber in my 45-70 as it drags much harder and gives me the impression it is scrubbing a little harder.
