Using a wrench or socket, carefully loosen and remove the plug, ensuring not to damage the threads. As the plug is removed, the gear oil will flow out of the gearbox and into the container. Position the oil catch pan or container directly beneath the drain plug to prevent spills or mess. Step 3. Clean the Leaking Area.In the winter and wet months I do, in fact my cbf manual states to use 80w gear oil on the chain. It flings a bit so you really have to wipe off excess but otherwise lasts long and survives rain well but picks up dirt, dist and crap very easily in the dry weather as to be expected with regular oil lube. 2. Reply. Sirico. The oil in these engines is for the engine only and not shared so a JASO rating is not significant -- even though the T6 carries some. For the transmission, ATF+4, Dodge ATF. Works well, the transmission is nothing more than a large transfer case. Do not use a thick gear oil, it can stretch the chain inside of the transmission. It describes the oil’s resistance to flow at 212°F (100°C), or normal operating temperature. Using 10W-30 instead of 5W-30, however, could make cold starts more difficult. It’s helpful to think of the “W” as standing for “winter.”. The lower the oil’s “W” viscosity, the more readily it will flow when cold.I have seen proven time and time again where a slightly thicker oil in a gearbox will make it last longer. The problem with high speed CNC machinery is that if you get the oil too thick, it creates lag and extra heat in the motors trying to push against the thicker gear oil. ...
